Longtime Greenback resident Michelle Williams soft-launched Greenback Nutrition on April 7 in the former Greenback Museum space between the Greenback Diner and the new museum location on Morganton Road.

“I’m working with the owner of Southern Twist, Christi Kawa, to provide our community with more options for healthy food,” Williams said.

For the past 18 years, Williams worked as a dental assistant and office manager before taking a leap of faith into entrepreneurship this month.

The health food shop offers protein shakes, teas loaded with vitamins and energy supplements, but Williams said she plans to expand her offerings in the future. She also offers limited merchandise.

Initially, she plans to hire at least one full-time worker to help during the store’s regular weekly hours of 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Initial feedback on Facebook has been positive, she said.

“Word of mouth is huge in Greenback,” she said. “We’re such a close-knit community, so when something changes or something new comes to town, everyone is watching and waiting.”
