Subs & Such will celebrate its 43rd year in business May 1 by challenging members of the community to help raise $43,000 to support Isaiah 117 House — a national nonprofit with a Blount County location that provides temporary shelter to foster children awaiting placement.

In addition to donating 43 percent of the restaurant’s daily gross sales, restaurant owner Mike Mayes said he is launching a fundraising arm of the business called Club 83 that will help raise money for nonprofits in the community. To kick-start this program, he said he’s recruiting 83 individuals to donate $117 each to raise a total of $9,711.

Donors will receive a T-shirt, a 10 percent discount on meals for the rest of the year and recognition on a donors’ plaque installed inside the restaurant as well as being mentioned on the restaurant’s social media, he explained.

Businesses that want to join the effort can also sponsor events and match donations.

“We want to make this a birthday with a purpose,” Mayes said. “Club 83 will allow individuals and families to be part of making a real impact for children in our community.”
